The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research chairs the meeting of the Electronics Research Institute
The Board of Directors of the Electronics Research Institute held a meeting on Sunday 13/2/22, headed by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in the presence of Dr. Yasser Refaat, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs, and Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, and Dr. Walid Al-Zawawi, Secretary of the Council of Research Centers, Institutes and Bodies, and Dr. Sherine Abdel Qader Muharram, acting president of the institute, and members of the board of directors, via video conference technology.
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar started the meeting by reaffirming the state’s keenness to overcome all obstacles facing researchers and innovators, pointing to the importance of the role played by the institute, other research bodies, and what they can offer to serve the Egyptian society.
The Minister praised the developments and achievements that took place in the new headquarters of the Electronics Research Institute, and in the Science and Technology City affiliated with the Electronics Research Institute (STPERI), calling for the speedy completion of the preparation works for the buildings, and for a detailed report on the project that includes the workload and implementation rates, in order to implement the assignment of Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of Egypt, to hold a major celebration in the coming period, noting that the current period is witnessing a tangible interest on the part of the political leadership in scientific research in Egypt. With the aim of bringing about positive change in all fields in line with the development plans in Egypt.
On her part, Dr. Sherine Abdel Qader outlined the institute's development work, referring to the most important activities, events and achievements of the institute during the past period, including: scientific visits and the events that were implemented, the cooperation protocols that took place with various ministries, universities, local and international companies for the purpose of educational research and industrial cooperation.
Dr. Sherine also touched on the current position of the project to establish a clean room at the Electronics Research Institute, which is scheduled to be established on an area of three thousand square meters; With the aim of manufacturing components and microelectronic chips designed locally and globally, noting that this project is scheduled to be implemented in three phases in cooperation with the Information Systems Center of the National Authority for Military Production, as well as cooperation with an international coalition consisting of 9 foreign and local companies to implement the required studies. Dr. Sherine explained that it is planned that the study will address the technologies expected to flourish and expand the global market for them in the near future. The study also aims to identify the most appropriate manufacturing technology to achieve sustainability for the project, as well as serving the institute's scientific research sector, technology incubators and emerging companies in the institute's science city.
During the meeting, the Institute's products (for which prototypes have been completed, ready for manufacturing and marketing in the coming period), were reviewed as well as the Institute's patent acquisition, the Institute's efforts in the field of entrepreneurship and technology incubators in addition to an explanation of the new methodology to support fast-track internal research projects whose implementation period does not exceed one year, and has applied outputs that can be marketed in the field of industry and community service.
The board agreed to accept a gift from the family of the late Dr. Fadia Ghali, to establish an annual award for young researchers, as well as accepting a donation from the Information and Computer Systems Center at the Ministry of Military Production and one of the companies operating in the textile sector.
The meeting also discussed a number of topics related to the affairs of members of the research body at the Electronics Research Institute, such as promotions, appointments and loans.
