The Electronics Research Institute obtains MathWorks academic software package licenses
Prof. Dr. Hisham El-Deeb - President of the Electronics Research Institute - signed at the beginning of this month with Mrs. PJ Boardman, Head of Academic Marketing at MathWorks International - Boston - United States of America - through electronic signature, the academic licensing agreement for MathWorks programs packages, which is considered the best in class. In the design and development of engineering simulation systems and technical calculations, the agreement specifies the scope of licensed use of software packages within the institute’s network in educational activities and non-commercial research projects.
It should be noted that the aforementioned package of programs exceeds the normal cost of 15 million Egyptian pounds, whose licenses have been obtained at an amount close to half a million pounds annually, after negotiations that lasted for four months related to the activities of the Institute and monitoring and documenting the academic, educational and social impact of these activities.
The package includes more than 100 programs and tools within the company's product range, on top of which are MATLAB and Simulink programs and all their toolboxes covering various engineering and electronic fields such as 5G communication programs, satellite communications, aerospace science, autonomous cars, radio, data analysis and learning High-performance machine, signal processing and parallel computing.
The representative of MathWorks in the education sector for North Africa and the Middle East, Eng. Mounzer Saleh - Ireland, had participated in the technical workshop held by the Cloud Computing Lab on March 28th and presented the means and mechanisms through which the Cloud Computing Lab system and high-performance computers can be activated to accelerate The pace of discovery, innovation, development and machine learning in engineering and science through running technical calculations for MathWorks software packages on all advanced lab servers at the same time, in order to achieve access to results at an unprecedented speed.
The Electronics Research Institute begins, through the Cloud Computing and High-Performance Computers Lab, to provide an acceleration system for simulation, design and technical calculations on MathWorks programs, which is the first of its kind in Egypt to complete engineering simulations and technical calculations in record time, taking advantage of the infrastructure development that took place during the first quarter of the year with Computational Capacity of 2.5 beta flops/s.
