



Electronics Research Institute organizes second hackathon for smart water management solutions
The Electronics Research Institute, in cooperation with the Egyptian Society for Science and Engineering, organized the "Second Hackathon for Smart Water Management Solutions", with the participation of many supporting bodies and institutions; Under the auspices of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Dr. Sherine Abdel Qader, head of the Electronics Research Institute, pointed out that the hackathon is a brainstorming mechanism, in which young innovators and idea owners meet with experts and specialists; To participate extensively in the implementation and development of new projects or applications in a specific area of the state’s plan, such as water management and conservation solutions, which are at the top of the state’s priorities in the current period, adding that the hackathon addresses young people from 15 to 25 years old, divided into two segments. Of the students, they are the school students segment, and the university students segment in the faculties of engineering, computers and information.
The head of the Electronics Research Institute explained that the students were divided into groups ranging from 3-5 people, and the students use all means from laptops and electronic components to find out-of-the-box solutions for smart water management systems, using Internet of Things technology, sensors, water purification solutions, and others. She pointed out that 51 teams submitted to the competition, and the arbitration resulted in the nomination of 17 teams for final arbitration, including 4 teams from university students, and 13 teams from school students.
It is worth noting that the event’s organizing committee set the admission requirements for the contestants, including the age group, and a commitment to work for a period of 4 continuous days “the hackathon period”, as well as a commitment to attend any preparatory workshops prior to the hackathon, with an innovative idea that provides a solution to water problems.
The competing groups were supervised during the preparatory work and during the hackathon by a group of specialists from Egyptian universities; Including Nile University, El Alamein University, headed by Dr. Hala Al-Sadiq, supervisor of the Hackathon, and Dr. Mohamed Ismail, Executive Director of the Hackathon, and an integrated team of specialists at the Institute.
