Higher Education: a protocol between the Electronics Research Institute, the Ministry of Communications, and the Sidari Center
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, reviewed a report submitted by Dr. Sherine Abdel Qader Muharram, Acting President of the Electronics Research Institute, on the Institute’s signing of a cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (SEDARY).
The report indicated that the cooperation protocol aims to build the capabilities necessary to safely deal with expired electrical and electronic parts and reuse them again, which contributes to opening job opportunities for young people and saving the cost of importing new devices, by preparing a scientific curriculum for training on decoding and testing the parts and using the components that It is suitable for work to assemble reusable devices, in addition to training the trainees on the scientific method that was prepared by the work team of the Electronics Research Institute, and implementing an entrepreneurship incubator program in the field of integrated electronic waste management to qualify for the establishment of youth companies in the fields of recycling used and expired devices .
She indicated d. Sherine indicated that signing the protocol is a first step to implement the activities and works that were agreed upon in the meeting held last July between the three parties, explaining that the protocol comes within the institute's current strategic plan. To establish a central research laboratory to test the components of e-waste, and to conduct the necessary studies for their reuse.
The protocol was signed by the Electronics Research Institute d. Sherine Muharram, and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology d. Khaled Al-Attar, Deputy Minister for Mechanization, Digital Transformation, and Administrative Development, and on behalf of the Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (Sidari), Dr. Nadia Makram Ebeid, Executive Director of the Center.
It is worth noting that the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, in cooperation with the Electronics Research Institute, has developed a study of a roadmap for the e-waste recycling industry - the circular economy - through the lead researcher of the project, Dr. Sherine Abdel Qader, where the project supported by the Academy aims to present a comprehensive study on the electronics industry in Egypt, and methods of treating electronic waste at the level of Egypt, Arab and African countries; With the aim of proposing a roadmap for the e-waste industry in Egypt.
