Project Title | Multi-Feature based Fingerprint Recognition System on FPGA |
Project PI | Prof.Dr Samia Mashaly |
Project Abstract | The fingerprint is first scanned by an electronic sensor and entered to the system that consists of a computer connected to a FPGA Evaluation board. The scanned image goes through preprocessing that includes segmenting the fingerprint from the background, measuring the ridge orientation and frequency, and finally estimating the image quality. The enhancement stage is applied on the image to measure mutli-features required; the ridge endings and bifurcation points as used by other commercial systems, and extra features which are the ridge count, ridge length, ridge curvature direction and ridge type. Finally, the matching stage is applied between the enrolled fingerprint and the stored one. The method of implementation is the hardware/software co-design, using the VHDL , which is a hardware description language, and C language running on a processor. |
Project Objectives | Implementing a local multi-feature based fingerprint recognition system using FPGA |
Project Deliverables | a national product, that uses more features in recognition other than the common features used in the available exported commercial products. |
Project Beneficaries | The project can be used in different applications: |
