ERI Strengthens International Research Collaboration through AI and Digital Technologies Training Program in China
As part of Egypt’s national strategy to build capacities in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation, and in line with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s commitment—represented by the Cultural Affairs and Missions Sector—to enhancing the capabilities of researchers and promoting international knowledge exchange, the Electronics Research Institute (ERI), under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sherine Mohamed Abdelkader Mohram, President of ERI and Chairperson of the Board of the Science and Technology City for Electronics Research and Industry, participated in the Training Program for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology Applications, organized by Zhejiang Normal University in the People’s Republic of China. The program was supported by the Ministry of Commerce of China (MOFCOM) and China Aid and was held from 3–16 July 2026.
ERI was represented by Associate Professor Dr. Rasha Shoitan, Assistant Professor in the Computer and Systems Department, who joined an Egyptian delegation comprising representatives from public, private, and national universities, as well as research centers and institutes. The participation reflects Egypt’s continued investment in developing highly qualified professionals capable of leading digital transformation and advancing AI applications across various sectors.
The intensive two-week program featured a series of lectures delivered by distinguished Chinese academics and experts, covering the latest developments in AI and digital technologies. Topics included China’s national AI strategy, AI ethics, data security governance, trustworthy intelligent systems, smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0, industrial robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), digital talent development, technology-driven industrial competitiveness, and AI-enabled green energy and sustainable development.
Participants also took part in technical visits to leading academic and industrial institutions, including SUPCON Technology, Chaoxing Education Technology, the Liang'an Agricultural Technology Complex, Shuangtong Daily Necessities Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Future Sci-Tech City, and the Yiwu Global Digital Trade Center. These visits provided first-hand insight into China's successful integration of AI, IoT, big data, and digital technologies across manufacturing, education, agriculture, and digital trade, while showcasing effective models for technology transfer and innovation-driven economic development.
As part of the program, a dedicated scientific session was organized to explore future academic and research collaboration between Chinese and Egyptian institutions. During this session, Dr. Rasha Shoitan delivered a presentation entitled “AI for Safer, Trustworthy & Human-Centered Intelligent Systems,” highlighting ERI’s research capabilities, advanced laboratories, and expertise in artificial intelligence, computer vision, image and video processing, as well as the Institute’s successful international collaborations—particularly with Chinese universities. The presentation also outlined ERI’s vision for establishing long-term strategic partnerships with Zhejiang Normal University in AI and digital technologies.
ERI’s participation reflects its strategic commitment to strengthening international scientific cooperation, benefiting from global best practices in AI and digital transformation, expanding research partnerships, and supporting Egypt’s Vision 2030 through knowledge transfer, innovation, and scientific excellence.
