About the Workshop:
The ability to understand natural language has been an active research area of many decades now. This has enabled computers to communicate, understand and interact effectively with natural languages. Today the area of Natural Language Computing is witnessing major development in the approaches and methods that are used recently. This has been driven by the modern NLP engines that offer advancements and widen the potential of applications and tools. This trend also includes the ability to process different languages with comparable quality and capabilities. Arabic is one of these languages, that have been in the focus of researcher and developers in this area.
Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. / Sherine Mohamed Abdel Qader, Acting President of the Electronics Research Institute, and on the occasion of the International Day of the Arabic Language, the Informatics Research Research Department has the honor to organize a workshop entitles “Arabic Computational Linguistics: Challenges and Opportunities”, which would focus on the advancement of this area as they pertain to the Arabic language. The workshop will be held on Monday, January 24th, 2022 from 9:00am – 4:30pm at the Tarek Kamel Hall in the Electronics Research Institute campus. The workshop will also allow for remote presence through Webex©.
The workshop provides a unique forum for researchers and practitioners of Arabic from different academia from within and outside the institute to share the results of their experiences and research findings in all areas of Arabic language engineering.
The objectives of the Workshop include:
-Participation in the international celebration of the Arabic Language Day, December 18.
- Recognizing key researcher/scientists and practitioners in the area of Natural Language Computing for their contributions
-Providing a forum to discuss the latest technologies in the field of Natural Language Computing.
-Create a forum to meet researchers and create opportunities for cooperation.
