Signing a cooperation protocol with Huawei to establish a support academy for researchers and entrepreneurs
Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, affirmed the Ministry’s keenness to support cooperation between institutes, research centers, and industrial and technological bodies. To transform scientific research into existing products, pointing to Egypt’s interest in developing electronics as a vital field that contributes to maximizing the Egyptian economy.
He pointed out that Egypt has a clear plan to support science, technology and innovation, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
The Electronics Research Institute signed a memorandum of understanding with Huawei. To cooperate in the field of capacity building, through the establishment of an ICT Academy ERI-Huawei ICT Tech Academy, with the aim of supporting and developing the capabilities of young people by transferring technological knowledge, and training trainers from the Electronics Research Institute by high-level international experts from Huawei on the latest technology fields such as Computing, big data, 5G and more.
Through the memorandum of understanding, Huawei also accredits the Electronics Research Institute as a government partner of the Huawei Cloud Startups Programme, with the aim of providing the necessary support and training to entrepreneurs and developing their skills. To obtain opportunities to represent Egypt at the regional and global level, create added value for them, and encourage accredited and qualified startups to join the Huawei Cloud Startups Program, which accelerates the growth of startups, by providing technical and technological support, in addition to Free access to Huawei cloud solutions, as well as providing ICT infrastructure, which plays an essential role in serving startups and transforming innovative ideas into successful projects.
The memorandum of understanding was signed on behalf of the Electronics Research Institute by Dr. Sherine Abdel Qader Muharram, President of the Institute, and on behalf of Huawei by Jerry Wang, Vice President of Huawei Egypt for the Human Resources Sector. The signing was witnessed by Dr. Yasser Refaat, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs, in the presence of Engineer Amr Zayed, President of the Electronics Research Institute. During the signing ceremony, Dr. Yasser Refaat explained that the cooperation between the Electronics Research Institute and Huawei comes within the framework of the ministry’s vision and science, technology and innovation strategy, and in light of the state’s strategy for sustainable development (Egypt Vision 2030), pointing out that the science, technology and innovation axis in the development strategy Sustainable growth is based on two main goals: creating an encouraging, stimulating and supportive environment for innovation, producing knowledge, transferring and localizing technology to contribute to economic and societal development.
Dr. Sherine Abdel Qader stated that the signing of the memorandum of understanding is considered a continuation of the implementation of the institute’s strategic plan, and that it has many main objectives, including strengthening the knowledge-based economy and increasing competition and investment opportunities for young researchers, entrepreneurs, and emerging companies, as cooperation between the two sides is based on building... Youth capabilities to support Egypt’s vision of digital transformation, adding that Huawei will transfer technological knowledge and provide researchers with educational materials used in training.
The President of the Institute announced the holding of a training course for 40 members of the Institute by high-level international experts from Huawei in a number of technology fields, in addition to qualifying and accrediting 20 of them as certified trainers from Huawei. To provide Huawei accredited courses for communications and information technology engineers in several fields, including: artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, the Internet of Things, network security, and any other fields agreed upon between the two parties in the future.
For his part, Jerry Wang stated that Huawei is committed to developing talent and creating a sustainable ICT ecosystem in Egypt, making Egypt a center of excellence and a bank for ICT talent in the Middle East and North Africa region, expressing his happiness to cooperate with the Electronics Research Institute; To launch a new academy, becoming the 82nd academy at the level of Huawei ICT Academies, and for more government agencies to join the Huawei system to build capabilities and work together; To empower youth and prepare a new generation of ICT leaders, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and Egypt’s strategy to achieve digital transformation.
